What’s a book you think deserves a sequel?

Shakespeare said that the world is a stage and we are all actors in it.

This also means that every single life is a book 📕 and they deserve a sequel.

Now, as a Christian, we know that there is only one life and after it, death judgement follows.

It makes us to ask this question: What is all the fuss about life about?

When a life ends, we leave everything in this world. That makes us think that is the end. However, truly, the Bible makes us think only of death as a transition.

There is life that follows death. In Nigeria, most cultures think of death as a phase of life. It is a movement to another life. So, different views, practices and even names show this. Iyabode, Yetunde, Yejide, Iyetunde, Babajide, Babatunde, etc. suggest reincarnation. These names are Yoruba but other cultures in Nigeria have other ways they reflect this same practice. So, life does not end with death; it is a movement to another life. So, a person’s life’s new chapter or full book 📖 opens and they live that life.

However, the Bible looks at this differently. The only sequel you get to the book of this life is the report at the throne of God to give account of how you lived the current life.

I only learnt two days ago that a friend from my university days died. It was shocking because she was only 60 years old and retired from active government service as a classroom teacher this January. She was celebrated on her retirement from service. Nonetheless, she still died. Her mother is still alive. But the good thing is that she was there to see her daughter married before she left.

I can still remember how we met in our first year in the university and became friends as freshmen, or more appropriately, freshgirls. But that is life.

She gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ before me. I am sure she is in a better place. The sequel to her story is thus that of God’s mercy and total peace in His presence. We may not always understand these things when someone dies so much earlier than we might have expected; we only know this: God remains faithful.

Sola’s sequel might have come earlier than we imagined, but God’s faithfulness never fail.

So, as you live this story of your current life, pause and think about the sequel life will hand you as you transition to the great beyond. When we think deeply, we will be more responsible in our choices.
