What’s a book you never finished but still think about?
It is rear for me not to finish a book. However, I remember that I once read a book in the African Series and found so much ritual in it that I put it down. However, I think when Ingot older, ai went back to finish it. I cannot remember the name again.
A second book I had such a problem with was Ferdinand Oyono’s The Houseboy. What was off putting for me was the image of a human head on a platter. It was the head of a blonde female. To read it for my literature course in the university then, I had to wrap it up and pretend it was not having that problem. Sincerely, it was unusual for me to wrap my books. However, there was no way I could respond to a question in an exam on that book without reading it. I had to think out of the box and painfully read through it by covering the image.
Anyway, as much as I love books and reading them, even I am permitted to be put off by books when they expressed rotten and off putting content. That was the same way I felt about Ayo Kwei Amah’s The Beautiful Ones are Not Yet Born. I later read it when I realised that the irritating description of the rotten stair rail and toilet ended around the first few pages. In addition, when I matured enough to understand the symbolism of the book, I saw beyond the irritating and vivid description to the underlying message about Ghanaian corrupt politicians. .
Another such book that I never finished was an e-book that I was finding quite irritating due to its length and the foolishness growing with the book. Anyway, whenever I had free time again, I might revisit it. But not now.
