Which languages do you speak and how did that impact your life?
Hmmm!
I speak Okpe (Edo dialect), Yoruba and English. Currently stuck with mastering my French. I wanted to change to Mandarin but yet to find the platform.
Smattering ability in Ika, Ebira, Igbo, and Hausa.
All these languages have provided some impact in my life. My rainbow kaleidoscope ability in languages is not due to my being a professional linguist but because I grew up in a metropolitan system where I was exposed to many.
Funnily, my first language is Yoruba, not Okpe of my parents. However, I ensured that I mastered my mother tongue with determination. After that, it has been mastery of new languages due to my chosen profession and interest in stories.
Through marriage and places of work, attendance at conferences, etc., it has been a wonderful adventure to learn different languages.
The impact on me had been that of wanting to learn new words and understanding the story behind them as well as their structure.
Learn a new language and its culture. It is an adventure you cannot regret.
